PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Blade Runner 2049 came out in 2017, directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Ryan Gosling as K, an LAPD blade runner who is himself a replicant. Roger Deakins finally won his Oscar for shooting it. Most of what people remember from the film is weather, and K spends it walking through all of it in one coat.

Costume designer Renée April has explained how that coat was actually built, and it is not what most people assume. It was not leather. She used cotton, laminated before construction so the rain would run off it on set, then painted over the finished coat to add age and texture. She has also said the shape was a nod to the raincoat Harrison Ford wore in the 1982 original, which ties K back to Deckard without saying a word.

The cotton is closer to what was on screen and it drapes the way the film coat drapes. The details stay the same either way. The collar stands up and buckles shut at the throat, which is the silhouette people recognize from the poster. Left open, the rust shearling facing shows against the black. The length runs below the knee, so it moves properly when you walk instead of stopping short at the hip.

Sizes XS to 5XL, or send your measurements for a custom cut at an extra $40.
