PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Thriller was the title track of Michael Jackson’s 1982 album, and its nearly 14-minute short film, directed by John Landis, debuted in December 1983. It is still the reason most people can picture a red jacket the moment they hear the song.
The jacket was designed by costume designer Deborah Nadoolman Landis, and every line on it is doing a job. The shoulders were built angular and rigid so they stood out from the body. The black stripes run in a V across the chest and down the sleeves, which pulls the eye upward and outward. Landis has said plainly that the point was to make Jackson read as more virile on camera, because he was a slim young man who had to hold a frame against dancers and creature effects.
The screen-worn jacket later auctioned by Julien’s was described as red-and-black calfskin. When it was auctioned at Julien’s in June 2011 it sold for $1.8 million, and the proceeds went to an animal sanctuary.
Our version recreates the jacket’s key visual features in genuine leather. Genuine leather in red with black leather chevrons set into the panels rather than printed on, a stand-up collar that holds its shape without a lapel, rounded cuffs at the wrist, and the snap tab fastening across the front. Viscose lining keeps the weight down and lets it slide on over a shirt. Custom is an extra $40 and we confirm your measurements before cutting.
Wear it the way the film did, over black, with the collar standing. For Halloween, tribute nights and stage work it needs nothing else.

Decormi Jacket
Size Guide
Every Decormi jacket is cut to body measurements, not garment measurements. Measure yourself with a soft tape, match the numbers below, and use the measuring notes further down if you are unsure where the tape should sit.

How to measure
Shoulders
Measure straight across your upper back, from the outer edge of one shoulder to the other. Stand tall with your shoulders relaxed — hunching adds up to an inch.
Chest / Bust
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms and level all the way round. Keep it snug, not tight, and breathe normally with your arms at your sides.
Sleeve
Start at the tip of your shoulder and run the tape down the outside of your arm to the wrist bone. Keep the elbow slightly bent so the sleeve does not ride up when you move.
Waist
Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, roughly halfway between your lowest rib and your hip bone. Let the tape rest on the body without pulling it in.
Still between two sizes?
Leather softens and moulds to you with wear, so a jacket that feels close-fitting in the first week settles in. Pick the smaller size for a sharp, fitted look; go one size up if you plan to wear a hoodie or a jumper underneath. Send us your chest, shoulder and sleeve measurements and we will confirm the size before your order ships.
